一、Application Prospect of 2um Laser
01. Biomedical
The application of laser technology has led to great advancement in medical technology. In particular, the emergence of 2um lasers has also brought new changes to the medical field. In view that the absorption peak of many atoms and molecules which include the water molecules is located in the 2um wavelength, when the 2um laser operates, powerful laser energy can be instantly absorbed by water. And then a strong vaporization cutting effect will be generated which greatly improves the laser cutting ability and has the effect of coagulation and hemostasis. Meanwhile, the penetration depth in the tissue is also smaller, which greatly limits the area of injury and improves the safety of surgery. At present, 2um laser technology has obvious application advantages in male prostatic hyperplasia, surgery, ophthalmology, dentistry, medical plastic surgery and other surgeries. It has broad prospects for future development indeed.
02. Industrial Laser Processing
2um lasers also have advantages that other lasers do not have in the field of industrial processing. Many non-metallic materials (plastics, fiber paper, etc.) have a high absorption rate for lasers in the 2um wavelength. Hence using a 2um laser, it can process non-metallic materials without the absorption layer which not only eliminates the need for additives used to manufacture the absorption layer, but also has excellent processing quality. This will greatly promote the progress of industrial processing technology.
03. Other Application
In addition to biomedical and industrial processing applications, 2um lasers can also be used for environmental monitoring, measuring atmospheric carbon dioxide and aerosol concentrations as well as cloud and water vapor distribution. In particular, the high peak power 2um pulsed laser can be used as an efficient pumping source for optical parameter oscillation and optical parameter amplifiers to achieve the output of medium and far infrared lasers, which has very important application value in LIDAR, photoelectric countermeasures, laser ranging and infrared guidance technology. It can be seen that 2um laser has broad applications and market prospects in many fields.
